Financial times article on Orion scandal that was revealed by When Heroes Lie documentary
Release 21.9.2012
The Financial Times has published an article on the Finnish pharmaceutical company Orion's illegal supply of medicines to the Finnish ski team. The article notes that the official investigation of Orion was reopened due to recent Finnish media reports. These reports were based on the investigative work done for the Arto Halonen's documentary Sinivalkoinen valhe (When Heroes Lie) as presented in Jouni K. Kemppainen's article in the Helsingin Sanomat.
The Financial Times states that Orion "illegally supplied medicines to the country's skiing team" and that the case "is a rare documented instance of supplies of medicines that could be used for performance enhancement being provided by a pharmaceutical company directly to athletes". The full text of the Financial Times article, which also presents the investigators' conclusion that the statute of limitations for the illegal supply has passed under the medicines act, can be found here.
